New Liars album "Sisterworld" out 2010
Liars announce the release of their fifth studio album, "Sisterworld", in early 2010.

"Sisterworld", the follow up to "Liars" (2007), was written and recorded in Los Angeles by Liars and Tom Biller (Kanye West, Beck, Where The Wild Things Are / Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind soundtracks).

This is the first Liars album to be recorded entirely in the USA since 2004's "They Were Wrong, So We Drowned" and sees Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross taking inspiration from fringe characters lured to LA and the resulting subcultures and alternate spaces that they generate.

"Sisterworld" is Liars' own space, completely devoid of influence, somewhere remote from the false promises and discarded dreams amassed in LA. In it Liars explore the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society.

Say Liars, “We're interested in the alternate spaces people create in order to maintain identity in a city like LA. Environments where outcasts and loners celebrate a skewered relationship to society”.

Sisterworld, the band's critically acclaimed fifth album is out now on CD, 2CD deluxe version with special packaging, and vinyl. The second disc of the 2CD release sees each track on Sisterworld remixed and reinterpreted by a host of artists including Thom Yorke, Devendra Banhart, Atlas Sound, Blonde Redhead, Fol Chen and Alan Vega. On May 25th Liars released “The Overachievers”, the second single from Sisterworld, described by frontman Angus Andrews as “a hyper realistic portrayal of the young and unaffected living in LA.” The single also features two brand new tracks, “Pleasure Is Boss” and “Only Sometimes”, along with Devendra Banhart & The Grogs’s reinterpretation of the song.

Sisterworld has already met with extensive critical praise including an 8.1/Best New Music distinction from Pitchfork and reached #5 on the CMJ Top 200 Chart. New York Magazine says “With ‘Sisterworld, the band have found a balance, providing both exceptional standalone moments and a unifying theme.” High Times adds, "Sisterworld is like a Mayan maze of sonic and lyrical ambiguity that pummels and cajoles... while darting jittery glances down dank alleys

Sisterworld, Liars' boldest and most exhilarating record to date, is a dense art-pop thrill from start to finish. “Bands that do what they want to do because they believe in it – and trust the intelligence of their listeners – are the future. That is the brave new world of Liars”
– Los Angeles Times

Liars recently filmed an exclusive performance for Pitchfork TV’s ‘Surveillance’ series. Watch the band rock and rattle an abandoned prison with tracks from their new album, Sisterworld, including “Scissor”, “Proud Evolution”, and “Scarecrows On A Killer Slant”. Watch it HERE.

Liars will begin a 2nd string of tour dates in July. At the Brooklyn Northside Festival, Liars will be performing on the MetroPCS Stage at Barge Park, marking the first ever outdoor performance on the Greenpoint Waterfront.

Watching Liars live, Pitchfork said, “It's tough to overstate Andrew's abilities as a frontman…Andrew uses every bit of his big frame to convey a constant evil insanity. But there's still a strong sense of control to what he and his band do onstage. If I ever manage to lose my mind entirely, I hope the voices in my head sound something like this band.” August Brown of the Los Angeles Times writes “Angus Andrew is a stringy-haired, gravel-voiced prophet of doom…He trawls the stage… it’s clear he’s having the time of his life up there”, while Rolling Stone proclaims they are “Working their way up to art rock legacy.”

On May 25th Liars released “The Overachievers”, the second single from their current album Sisterworld. Liars’ frontman, Angus Andrews, says the track is, “a hyper realistic portrayal of the young and unaffected living in LA.” Part parody - part homage, it’s one of the most lyrically direct tracks from an album that explores the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society and the false promises and discarded dreams amassed in LA. The single features two brand new tracks, “Pleasure Is Boss” and “Only Sometimes”, plus Devendra Banhart & The Grogs’s reinterpretation of the song. The video for “The Overachievers” is directed by Liars’ very own Aaron Hemphill and debuted on thesisterworld.com
