Moby iTunes Live from Montreal Out Now! Launches Video Competition

While in the midst of an extensive critically acclaimed US tour in Fall 2009, Moby recorded an intimate live performance at the Montreal iTunes store to a captivated audience. 'Moby iTunes Live from Montreal' becomes available around the world at iTunes this week (March 2 in North America and March 1 in the UK, and Internationally).
For this special recording Moby performed tracks from his most recent album 'Wait For Me,' as well as some other classics from previous albums, with a rare âE~stripped backâE~ set consisting of just guitar, piano, violin and vocals. Joining him for this incredible and unique performance were the very talented lead vocalists from his tour - Kelli Scarr and Inyang Bassey. Moby joins an exciting and diverse list of artists that have participated in this iTunes global signature music series which features sessions recorded at Apple stores in London, New York, Tokyo, Montreal, Sydney and Munich.
Also in Moby newsâE¦the latest video from his album 'Wait For Me' is now premiered on moby.com - it is for the title track and you can watch it here: wait for me by jessica dimmock. Like all the videos for this album, it was made by one of Moby's friends. He gave her complete creative control to do whatever she wanted to do - the result is an amazing and honest short film. Jessica Dimmock is a documentary photographer from NYC who took the press shots for the âE~Wait For MeâE(tm) campaign.
Further to this, Moby has launched a competition on mobygratis.com in association with Genero.tv, where users can win $5000 to make their own video for this track. To enter the competition go to: http://genero.tv/moby. The prize for the winning entry will be $5,000 with two runners up each receiving $1,000. The winning video will also be serviced to media worldwide in support of the singleâE(tm)s release. Closing date for entries will be April 5, 2010 and the winner, selected by Moby, will be announced on April 19, 2010.

London Show Announced

White Rabbits release âE~They Done Wrong / We Done Wrong' on 17th May âE" the shimmering follow-up to the explosive 'Percussion GunâE(tm) and second cut from their acclaimed new album 'It's Frightening'.

Following the band's short but hugely impactful run of London shows last month, White Rabbits return to the capital for what will be a must-see show at The Garage on 19th May.

âE~DramaticâE(tm) said The Times in their 4* review of the sextetâE(tm)s recent headline ICA show, while The Independent declared the performance âE~RemarkableâE(tm) in their glowing 5* review.

Written by White Rabbits, produced by Britt Daniel, and recorded in their hometown of Brooklyn, 'They Done Wrong / We Done Wrong' is an epic slice of free flowing, piano led rock, wrapped in a contagious and enduring melody. The tracks features lead singer Stephen Patterson's rasping vocals and a haunting yet driving bassline. The single comes backed with Rudie Fails, recorded live in London.

White Rabbits are: Stephen Patterson (vocals/piano), Jamie Levinson (drums), Matthew Clark (drums, guitar), Alex Even (guitar, vocals), Gregory Roberts (guitar/vocals) and Brian Betancourt (bass).

âEoeArt-rocking badassesâEÝ Pitchfork

Liars will debut material from their forthcoming album Sisterworld at SXSW 2010! The band will debut their live show March 18th, 2010 at the Insound party at Club Deville (set time: 4pm). Liars are set to headline the Billions showcase the following night, Friday March 19th, 2010 (set time: 1am). The trio âE" Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross, will be performing as a five piece at SXSW and their forthcoming US tour.

âEoeSisterworld has many more voices and instruments than Liars have hands or mouths so we've decided to involve two very skilled musicians, Samuel Bing and Alex Myrvold both of the band Fol Chen, for the live reincarnation of the album. Samuel Bing played with us on the Radiohead tour and Alex Myrvold played with us at Coachella. As a 5-piece we have the opportunity to justly represent our new material and also to redefine how our older material is put together. ItâE(tm)s about expanding our sonic palette so there are no restrictions to what ground we can cover on-stageâEÝ Says LiarsâE(tm) Angus Andrew.

Sisterworld is set for release March 9th, 2010 on CD, vinyl and a 2CD deluxe version. The deluxe version includes track reinterpretations by a host of artists including Thom Yorke, Devendra Banhart and Alan Vega and more. The unique packaging, designed by Brian Roettinger allows a surreal glimpse into the Sisterworld concertina. âEoeScissorâEÝ, the first single from Sisterworld, is available now. It includes the B-side Covenant Heart. There is also an iTunes exclusive track Manslaughter Oops.

Liars will tour North America in support of Sisterworld this coming Spring.

Goldfrapp Release New Single 'Rocket' in March

Remixes from Richard X, Penguin Prison, Grum and Tiësto

Musical pioneers Goldfrapp announce their brand new single âE~RocketâE(tm), to be released through Mute March 8th (UK) / 9th (US) 2010. Fizzy with inspiration, âE~RocketâE(tm) is a goose-bump brilliant tune and is taken from the duoâE(tm)s fifth album âE~Head FirstâE(tm), released in March.

âE~RocketâE~ is written and produced by band mates Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory and comes complete with new mixes by Richard X, Penguin Prison and Grum, and Tiësto, and is accompanied by a fabulous video directed by Kim Gehrig (Calvin Harris, Primal Scream, Santogold).

Meanwhile âE~Head First' is Goldfrapp's most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.

The diversity, ambition and direction of the new album highlights Goldfrapp as true agenda-setters and modern musical icons. âE~Head First' follows the critically acclaimed âE~Seventh Tree', and is the latest in a brilliantly consistent body of work - from the captivating electronic balladry of Mercury nominated debut âE~Felt Mountain' and its distorted-dancefloor follow-up, âE~Black Cherry' to the glitterball glamour of âE~Supernature' which came out in summer 2005 and went on to sell over a million copies worldwide.

'Rocket is basically brilliant âE" a charismatic and elegant modern pop tune with lyrics that are by turns wistful and dynamic' - Popjustice

And August Brown of The Los Angeles Times wrote,"[Fever Ray works] at the absolute forefront of sound, stage and the ways the two inform each other...Fever Ray never shies from its more theatrical and modern impulses, the real emotions Andersson's music brings out -- enticement, disquiet and unknowable mystery -- are much older than the stage. "

Fever Ray is the title of both the project and album. It is an evocation of the musicâE(tm)s sound and the culmination of work that began in 2007 when Karin Dreijer-Andersson and Olof Dreijer, the brother-sister duo who are The Knife, decided to take time out following a handful of incredible live shows. In addition to Andersson's Fever Ray project, she continues to collaborate with brother Olof as The Knife.

BUZZCOCKS REISSUES RELEASED FEBRUARY 9, 2010

INCLUDING PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACKS,
JOHN PEEL SESSIONS, SINGLES, AND LIVE VERSIONS

Another Music in a Different Kitchen
Love Bites
A Different Kind of Tension

Buzzcocks and Mute will release the original BuzzcocksâE(tm) albums, Another Music in a Different Kitchen, Love Bites, and A Different Kind of Tension from 1978 and 1979 February 9, 2010. The reissues will also feature previously unreleased tracks, John Peel sessions, associated singles, demos, backing tracks, and live versions.

BuzzcocksâE(tm) first album, Another Music in a Different Kitchen - a major punk landmark and a great record to boot - was released almost exactly thirty years ago. ItâE(tm)s full of fire, wit, speed, philosophical lyrics and gender explorations, as well the sly psychedelia that always made Buzzcocks stand out from the pack. This disc contains the full Another Music in a Different Kitchen album with the relevant John Peel session and another disc of various out-takes and the full live show recorded at the Electric Circus in October 1977: the venueâE(tm)s last night and the moment when Buzzcocks began to go national.

Love Bites is the second disc covering the associated singles: âEoeLove You MoreâEÝ and âEoePromisesâEÝ, and two Peel sessions as well as thirteen demos from summer 1978. As an added bonus, there is the full concert from the Lesser Free Trade Hall in June 1978, an exercise in instant nostalgia filmed by Granada TV under the guidance of Tony Wilson. Love Bites came at a troubled period for the group and the culture that had formed them. After the demise of the Rotten Sex Pistols in January 1978, Punk was seen as over. Buzzcocks were in danger of becoming yesterdayâE(tm)s future. But 1978 was an extraordinary year for the group. They released two albums, five singles âE" with two in the UK top twenty âE" and toured relentlessly.

This new edition of A Different Kind of Tension pulls together all the associated singles âE" five of them, including Parts 1âE"3 recorded with Martin Hannett and later collected on an American mini-album âE" as well as the last track the group recorded in their first incarnation: âEoeI Look AloneâEÝ. As an added bonus, there is a whole disc of demos from the period, including several hard to find songs like âEoeThe Drive SystemâEÝ, âEoeJesus Made Me Feel GuiltyâEÝ, and Paddy GarveyâE(tm)s heart-rending âEoeRun Away From HomeâEÝ. The set is rounded off with four BBC recordings from the period, including an early outing for âEoeEverybodyâE(tm)s Happy NowadaysâEÝ. This key song set the tone for this much-misunderstood period in BuzzcocksâE(tm) history.

The Knife In Collaboration With Mt. Sims And Planningtorock - "Tomorrow, In A Year"

AN OPERA ABOUT CHARLES DARWIN BY THE KNIFE
IN COLLABORATION WITH MT.SIMS AND PLANNINGTOROCK

DIGITAL ALBUM RELEASE FEBRUARY 2, 2010

CD IN STORES MARCH 9, 2010

Colouring Of PigeonsâE(tm) streamed on theknife.net

The Knife, in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, are to release the studio version of the opera âE~Tomorrow, In A YearâE(tm), will be in stores March 9, 2010. The album will be released on digital download sites February 2, 2010.
Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book âE~On the Origin of the SpeciesâE(tm), The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme. They extensively researched Darwin related literature and articles, with Olof attending a field recording workshop in the Amazon to find inspiration and to record sounds.
âE~Tomorrow, In A YearâE(tm) is a unique musical project. Richard DawkinsâE(tm)s gene trees have formed the basis of some of the musical composition, artificial sounds have been mixed with field recordings, with the music inspired by everything from the different stages of a bird learning its melody, to a song based on DarwinâE(tm)s loving letters about his daughter Anne. These are compositions that challenge the conventional conception of opera music.
Pushing the experimental process further still, composer, choreographer, costume designer and set designer worked separately, only coming together 3 and a half months before the first performance of âE~Tomorrow, In A YearâE(tm) in Copenhagen on the 2nd September 2009. Described as âEoeshifting the position of operartic art in a single leapâEÝ, further performances of âE~Tomorrow, In A YearâE(tm) are confirmed to take place in Athens (8-9 Jan), Stockholm (29 Jan-1 Feb), and Munster (5 June), with further dates to be announced.
Olof Dreijer says: âEoeAt first it was very difficult as we really didnâE(tm)t know anything about opera. WeâE(tm)d never been to one. I didnâE(tm)t even know what the word libretto meant. But after some studying, and just getting used to operaâE(tm)s essence of pretentious and dramatic gestures, I found that there is a lot to learn and play with. In fact, our ignorance gave us a positive respectless approach to making opera. It took me about a year to become emotionally moved by an opera singer and now I really do. I really like the basic theatrical values of opera and the easy way it brings forward a narrative. WeâE(tm)ve approached this before in The Knife but never in such a clear way.âEÝ

Liars announce details of an expanded edition of their eagerly awaited fifth studio album, Sisterworld, out on March 9th 2010. This version comes with a second CD of remixes and reinterpretations of all 11 tracks on Sisterworld from artists including Thom Yorke, Tunde Adebimpe (TV On The Radio), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter / Atlas Sound), Melvins, Devendra Banhart, Alan Vega (Suicide), Chris & Cosey (Throbbing Gristle) and Blonde Redhead.

Liars also announce a string od North American tour dates in support of Sisterworld. The tour sees fellow LA band Fol Chen supporting Liars on all dates. The first single from Sisterworld, Scissor will be released as a digital single February 16th, 2010.

Sisterworld is Liars boldest and most exhilarating record to date. The album was written and recorded in Los Angeles by Liars and Tom Biller and is an invigorating summation of their career so far. Building on the back-to-basics approach employed by previous album, Liars (2007), Sisterworld is a dense art-pop thrill from start to finish.

Sisterworld is LiarsâE(tm) own space, completely devoid of influence, somewhere
remote from the false promises and discarded dreams amassed in LA. In it Liars explore the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society.

According to Liars - Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross - âEoeWe're interested in the alternate spaces people create in order to maintain identity in a city like LA. Environments where outcasts and loners celebrate a skewered relationship to societyâEÝ.

Rowland S. Howard 1959-2009

We are deeply saddened today by the passing of our friend Rowland S. Howard.

He leaves behind a vast musical legacy, which we are proud to have been a part of, but right now our thoughts are with his family and many friends
throughout the world.

Nick Cave said: "This is very sad news. Rowland was Australia's most unique,
gifted and uncompromising guitarist. He was also a good friend. He will be
missed by many."

Goldfrapp - New Single and Album

March 2010

Genre-smashing musical pioneers Goldfrapp announce their brand new album 'Head First', to be released through Mute on 22nd March 2010. This will be preceded by the fantastic new single 'RocketâE(tm) on 8th March.

âE~Head First' is Goldfrapp's most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.

The duo's fifth album, 'Head First' is written and produced by band mates Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory and was recorded throughout 2009 in Bath and in London.

Fizzy with inspiration, the brand new single âE~RocketâE(tm) is a goose-bump brilliant tune destined to float out of radios across the land.

The diversity, ambition and direction of the new album highlights Goldfrapp as true agenda-setters and modern British musical icons. âE~Head First' follows the critically acclaimed âE~Seventh TreeâE(tm), which saw the NME describe Goldfrapp as âE~having done the seemingly impossible and become even more fantasy fabulousâE(tm) and as âE~sublime, anthemic popâE(tm) by The Independent. 'Head First' is the latest in a brilliantly consistent body of work - from the captivating electronic balladry of Mercury nominated debut 'Felt Mountain' and its distorted-dancefloor follow-up, âE~Black Cherry' to the glitterball glamour of âE~SupernatureâE(tm) which came out in summer 2005 and went on to sell over a million copies worldwide.

Goldfrapp will take 'Head First' on tour later in 2010 - following the massive acclamation for both the Supernature and Seventh Tree tours and festival appearances around the world, Goldfrapp have underlined their reputation as one of the most transcendent and inventive live bands around.

NIKKI SUDDEN 1956-2006

Nikki Sudden passed away on Sunday 26 March, in his sleep, after playing his final show, at the Knitting Factory in New York. He died too soon, and will be sorely missed by those who knew him.

The inspired, incendiary and inspirational music he made as Swell Maps with his brother Epic Soundtracks would alone be a remarkable legacy to leave behind. But Nikki embarked on a prolific career, as a solo artist and with his band, The Jacobites, recording a significant body of work and playing over 100 live shows in a typical year. At the time of his death Nikki had recently completed his tenth solo album and was working on various writing projects.

More about Nikki: www.nikkisudden.com
