Displaced Links
Artist: Kendall Turner Overdrive
"The sounds must become music." Simon Fisher Turner quoted from French writer Robert Bresson in an explanation of his motivations for creating 'Shwarma'. His critically lauded "solo" LP, released by Mute in October 1996 brought found sounds from around the world into a sumptuous and magical montage replete with traditional instrumentation, frequency loops and spoken word contributions. Now these sounds have been passed further on, into the hands of Parallel Series mentor Paul Kendall (AKA Piquet to create a further album of sonic discovery, 'Displaced Links'. Using the original album extracts of effects and source sounds, Kendall descended into his favoured domain of digital editor to adopt a blank canvas on which to place his own series of sounds. The result is a mesmerising journey through shimmering and often unnerving landscapes that takes 'Shwarma' into a parallel state.
